Why Digital Marketing Works—and the stats that prove it

The world of digital marketing is continually evolving, and it can be hard to keep up with the advances that seem to happen with increasing frequency, month on month, year over year.

To help you keep up with the trends in digital marketing and to understand a few of the reasons behind its success, here are some quick facts about the various marketing methods in use today:

Mobile marketing

Did you know that a whopping 50% of all purchases made the world over, are done so using mobile devices? With mobiles being the most commonly used device for buying and browsing, if you’re not tapping into mobile devices to promote your brand, you could be losing out:

  • Half of all online searches start on a mobile device
  • More than ¾ of all mobile searches are for local businesses
  • In the US alone, 173 million residents own a smartphone (or two!)
  • Almost half of all adults choose to use their mobile devices to carry out research before making an online purchase on their PC or laptop
  • Desktop traffic has a growth rate of just 12% in comparison to that of mobile traffic, which stands at around 125%
  • 95% of SMS messages were read and responded to within three minutes of receiving.

Email Marketing

While many mistakenly perceive email marketing as an outdated and ineffective method, the facts prove otherwise:

  • Emails opened by mobile devices has increased exponentially in recent years
  • For every $1 you spend on emails marketing, you can expect an average return of $42 (2022 HubSpot report).
  • As many as 87 percent of marketers use email marketing to disseminate their content (Content Marketing Institute, 2020)

In case you weren’t already aware, social media marketing is huge, and it’s not going anywhere. With a variety of platforms available to reach your target audience (and expand it), the options for creating brand awareness are virtually endless, and if you’re not maximizing social media marketing for your business, you might want to rethink your strategy!

The average individual who uses social media, has as many as 8 different accounts

Social media is the #1 content distribution channel with 89% of marketers using it to communicate their message.

Really, if that doesn’t sell it for you, nothing will!

SEO

Proper SEO services – ideally carried out by an agency who knows what they’re doing – are a worthwhile investment for any brand, and with the right SEO strategies can make or break a business.

As many as 93% of all interactions online, begin with a search engine

70% of marketers see SEO as more effective than pay-per-click (PPC).

Only 0.78% of Google searchers click on results from the 2nd page

Do you know where you appear when someone searches for your product or service?  If you’re on the second page (or beyond), you’re practically handing your sales to your competitors.

Content Marketing

In this modern age of vibrant technology, more and more consumers are falling for eye-catching imagery and compelling videos and spending less time reading through pages and pages of dull, dry content. If you’ve got a blog, make sure it’s interesting and accurate, and you must integrate visuals on your social media platforms.

Businesses with an active blog, typically see a higher flow of website traffic

Updating and republishing old blog posts with new content and images can increase organic traffic by as much as 106%.

Articles with photographs receive a whopping 94% more views than those without!
